Mandala of Celtic Buddhism Thangka

This mandala thangka reflects some aspects of the Celtic Buddhism lineage and is both personal and transitional. It borrows from the traditional Tibetan depictions of Buddhas, deities and protectors, such as Samantabhadra/Samantabhadri, Tara, Vajrayogini, and Ekajati. These images are drawn and painted according to the Tibetan principles of proportion, iconometry, motifs and symbols, for which my main source book was Tibetan Thangka Painting by David and Janice Jackson. Many of the Celtic aspects were inspired by the Celtic Art-The Methods of Construction by George Bain and the Book of Kells (from the early Irish Christian monastics), in addition to my personal understanding of these deities and symbols. Follow this link for more explanatory notes by the artist.
