Celtic Buddha Thangka

The Celtic Buddha thangka was a six month project undertaken by Bill Burns at the suggestion of his teacher, the Venerable Seonaidh Riley Perks. The thangka is a synthesis of traditional Tibetan thangka proportions, techniques and iconography with that of the Celtic Christian motifs as presented in the Book of Kells and other illuminated manuscripts of the British Isles. This work encompasses archetypes which are part of Celtic mythology, such as Cernunnos and the Flower-face Goddess, as well as Vajrayogini and the garuda of the Vajrayana teachings of Tibetan Buddhism. The tree of life winds along the outer borders and supports the lotus seat of the Buddha. This imagery is common to both traditions. Also depicted is the progression of Buddha nature through the mineral, vegetable, animal and human realms.

The importance of the lineage is acknowledged in the presentation of Chögyam Trunga Rinpoche and Ven. Seonaidh Perks in the upper corners.

The Celtic Buddha thangka may be used as a meditation support. If you are interested in purchasing a high quality photo reproduction please email the webmistress with desired size and your mailing address. We can then realistically discuss price and shipping arrangements.
